Tehran's heart at a glance
Tehran’s Eco passage project is in the Heart of Tehran and was showcased as a progressive project at Walk21 in Hong Kong.
After winning an award at the Walk21 Vienna conference a year earlier, it was reported that the project has become the center of focus for Tehran’s municipality and some parts of the project have already started construction.
The project’s scale has been extended from east to the west to enhance more connectivity between neighbourhoods with important new links to Tehran’s “Resalat” highway (which lays under the project) - key to Tehran’s transportation system.
The project includes an eye-catching City-Frame, cultural and recreational complexes, shopping centers, multifunctional spaces, infrastructures for various transit modes, green spaces, an underground public space (Commerce hill), etc. All of the new public spaces are designed with from a pedestrian oriented development approach.
Architect Foad Rabbini said " The main propose is to mitigate the unpleasant effects of constructing urban highways and to response to the spatial needs of surrounding fabrics".
As well as strengthening its attraction for tourists, over 12 million of the city’s residents (17% of national population) will be able to reach Tehran’s Heart within reasonable (walkable!) distance. The seamless route, and generous 1.2 Km corridor of planned improvements promises to accommodate those commuting by bike and on foot as well as for leisure, turning the fragmented city’s upper center into a real, and accessible asset.
