The XVII International Walk21 Conference on Walking and Liveable Communities in Hong Kong
3-7 October 2016 - Walking puts people first.
Walk21 and Civic Exchange are delighted to invite you to join us in Hong Kong for the first Walk21 Conference in the Asian Region. Whether you are a politician, a practitioner, a planner or a campaigner, you are welcome to share your experience and be part of the discussion and all side events at Walk21 Hong Kong in October 2016.
Walking is an essential component of liveable high-density cities like Hong Kong, where moving a lot of people within limited space is essential and challenging. Hong Kong is a compact layered city with a 24/7 stream of people and goods along its short network of roads. 90% of individual journeys are on public transport, with the critical first and last mile made on foot.
Walking is the foundation of efficient urban mobility and a measure of a city's vitality and sustainability. For many people in cities it is not a choice to walk, but a necessity. As the world moves towards greater urbanisation, walkability will be crucial for the people who live, work and play in all our cities and communities across the globe.
Walk21 Hong Kong will bring together the policy makers, business leaders, professionals and community opinion leaders who design and deliver walkability, from different fast-growing cities and towns in Asia and all over the world.
Come and join us in Hong Kong, share your story and be inspired by the success of others. You are invited to submit an abstract for the conference and we look forward to seeing you there!
Under the conference motto: Walking puts people first, we will explore four conference themes during the event in Hong Kong:
Walking between layers: creating liveable density
Walking with multiple benefits: creating age-friendly, socially inclusive, safe, low-carbon and resilient neighbourhoods
Walking smart: using information and technology to enhance walking
Walking together: nurturing partnerships and dialogue among policy makers, business leaders, local communities and stakeholders
There will be six formats for your ideas and presentations to choose from and to build a dynamic and interactive event:
Please submit your abstracts by 29 February 2016!
