#WeAreTransport: Joining forces for low-carbon transport

December 16, 2015

The Paris Process on Mobility and Climate (PPMC) brought together more than 150 organisations working on sustainable mobility, including Walk21, to strengthen the voice of the sustainable transport community in the run up to and at COP21 in Paris. For a full understanding of the PPMC and events in Paris visit their website here

This joint effort within the transport sector is highly remarkable and significant when looking at the numbers: Transport currently represents 23% of global GHG emissions, is almost entirely (to 96%) dependent on fossil fuels and accounts for almost 60% of global oil use.

Before and during the event, the PPMC were publicizing common key messages, from decarbonization potential to economic gains to a global audience using the hashtag #WeAreTransport.  We were very active in this campaign and used the opportunity to emphasize the potential of walking as the foundation of low carbon transport.
