Norwegian walking group takes off with a great song!

TJUKKASGJENGEN started January 2012. One person invited a friend for a walk aiming to improve fitness, and wrote about in on Facebook. Next day they were four and after two weeks 100 people met up to go for a walk. They soon organised a fixed time and place to meet up, with a choice of trip length and profile depending on fitness and ambitions. Soon people asked if they could start walking groups in other towns and cities. TJUKKASGJENGEN now has 350 local groups in Norway and abroad.

TJUKKASGJENGEN has received attention from media, authorities and organisations. They wish to stay independent and keep TJUKKASGJENGEN activity free of charge. Having fun and being together is the main goal, as well as individual health and weight ambitions. Becoming friends is a significant side effect, and for some, first priority when moving to a new place is joining a local walking group.
