Tehran commits to more walking at Walk21 Vienna

Dr Muhammad Ghalibaf, Mayor of Tehran, was pleased that Mr Babezie, Mayor from the 3rd district, visited Walk21 in Vienna on his behalf to accept the Walking Visionary award for the eco passaage city plan.

Dr Ghalibraf said " I am most happy that the plan for the pedestrian eco passage has won the award - it will provide new green access over the Resalat Tunnel and help reduce air pollution in the City. Our vision for a 'Blue Sky, Green Earth' is one of our highest ambitions".

Witihn a week of Walk21 Vienna, The Mayor launched the Golden Adobe Award in partnership with the UN Habitat, United Nations Human Settlements and the World Association of Major Metropolises. Dr Ghalibraf invited Walk21 participants to apply for the award.

The Golden Adobe, Tehran Award is given for Architecture, Urban Planning, the Promotion of art and Sustainable Development to ensure sustainability of urban innovations and cooperation and interaction in urban management. It is awarded in a special ceremony by the Tehran Mayor on World Cities Day every year to the projects, urban executives and top citizens who have been most influential in promoting sustainable urban development.
