Summary: Agora, Cities for People is a European-funded project that aims to develop an audit methodology for European cities to identify, analyse and re-design Capital Routes: the distinct strategic urban transects that incorporate shared concerns of all types of activity in the city.1 One of the main objectives of the project is to create a vision for the whole city through the study and analysis of a representative urban micro-cosmos. The project starts with identification and analysis of the Capital Routes and goes on to record the urban design components, observe the patterns of human activity, and develop strategic design proposals and urban design guidelines for the Capital Routes. This multi-layered analysis will be used for the strategic design of the Capital Routes in cities. This paper focuses on the first stage of the study, the comparative morphological analysis of the four cities of Barcelona, London, Malmo and Utrecht, using the spatial analysis methods of Space Syntax. The paper explains the challenges involved in producing the ... More
