How walkable is Pelham?

20 April 2009

The Pelham Canada I can Walk campaign continues to grow in strength.  And you can be part of it.

The Pelham Active Transportation committee wants to know what Pelham residents think about the walkability of their community. Bea Clark, chair of the committee, explained the committee is hoping to discover how Pelham residents see their community as it relate to pedestrian an cyclist safety.

The committee, she says, has identified a few areas that pose ongoing safety challenges, and the Glynn A Green school area and Pelham Road in general, have been brought  to Council's attention.  There are likely other areas  that residents have concerns about, says Clark, and the committee would like to ask residents to identify the "Top  10"pedestrian areas or crossings that require attention in Pelham.

To compile the Top 10, the committee is asking residents to complete a survey that looks at how walkable the community is. Clark explains the next time you take a walk, simply pay attention to your surroundings, look at lights, the sidewalks, crosswalks, etc, and ask yourself if the area is safe.

The survey is available at www.icanwalk.ca/home.
