The Mayor of Stuttgart signs the International Charter for Walking

Walk21 is pleased to announce that the Mayor of Stuttgart has signed the International Charter for Walking. The Mayor signed the Charter to launch the Cities for Mobility World Congress 2011. The congress is hosted each year by the City of Stuttgart and attracts delegates from around the world.

By signing the Charter, the Mayor has demonstrated Stuttgart's ongoing success in delivering walkable communities and underpinned future projects to extend this success throughout the city.

Celebrating their 5th anniversary, the Cities for Mobility World Congress, this year focussed on Urban Mobility and the Social Space Challenge. WIth 350 delegates from 40 countries, the forum was a vibrant, eclectic discussion about the demands on our cities for better public space and better mobility for people. Walking was central to many of these discussions, with projects from Eastern Europe to South America demonstrating the creative approaches being developed and successful ideas implemented.
